EMI/EMC & Safety Testing

EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) Testing

EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) Testing

EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) Testing

  • Evaluates the unintentional electromagnetic emissions from electronic devices.
  • Ensures emissions are within regulatory limits to prevent interference with other equipment.
  • Covers conducted and radiated emissions across various frequency bands.
  • Performed in shielded chambers using spectrum analysers and antennas.
  • Essential for compliance with FCC, CISPR, and MIL-STD standards.

EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) Testing

EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) Testing

EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) Testing

  • Assesses a device’s ability to operate correctly in an electromagnetic environment.
  • Includes both emission and immunity testing to ensure system reliability.
  • Tests for ESD, EFT, surge, and radiated/conducted immunity.
Validates that the device won’t malfunction due to external EMI.
  • Required for CE marking and global market access.

ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) Testing

EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) Testing

ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) Testing

  • Simulates static electricity discharges to evaluate device robustness.
  • Tests include contact and air discharge methods per IEC 61000-4-2.
  • Protects sensitive components from damage during handling or operation.
  • Helps design effective grounding and shielding strategies.
  • Critical for consumer electronics, automotive, and medical devices.

Surge & Transient Testing

Radiated & Conducted Emissions

ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) Testing

  • Simulates high-energy disturbances like lightning strikes or power line surges.
  • Tests are based on IEC 61000-4-5 and other regional standards.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of surge protection circuits.
  • Ensures device safety in industrial and outdoor environments.
  • Important for power supplies, communication ports, and control systems.

Radiated & Conducted Emissions

Radiated & Conducted Emissions

Radiated & Conducted Emissions

  • Measures unwanted RF energy emitted through air (radiated) or cables (conducted).
  • Performed in anechoic chambers or open-area test sites.
  • Ensures emissions are below regulatory thresholds.
  • Helps identify layout or shielding issues in PCB design.
  • Mandatory for FCC, CISPR, and CE compliance.

Product Safety Testing

Radiated & Conducted Emissions

Radiated & Conducted Emissions

  • Verifies that the product meets electrical safety standards.
  • Includes tests for insulation resistance, dielectric strength, and leakage current.
  • Ensures protection against fire, shock, and mechanical hazards.
Follows standards like IEC 62368, IEC 60601-1, UL 61010, and ISO 26262.
  • Essential for certification and consumer trust.

Pre-Compliance Testing

Pre-Compliance Testing

Pre-Compliance Testing

  • Early-stage testing to identify and fix EMI/EMC issues before formal certification.
  • Reduces risk of failure during final compliance testing.
  • Allows iterative design improvements and cost savings.
  • Uses near-field probes, spectrum analysers, and test setups.
  • Ideal for new product development/Engineering change and rapid prototyping environments.
